As one of the few women to break through and cover the Majors, Jean Furth has brought a fresh perspective to America’s favorite pastime. Beyond simply covering the game, Jean’s work has also focused on how women have made their mark in baseball. From the diamond to the owner’s box, she documents the inspiring stories of women who have broken barriers in the sport. Drawing on extensive interviews, the all-women league that inspired the film A League of Their Own, and the trailblazers of today, she paints a vivid picture of the sport’s rich history and pitches an exciting future.

About the Speaker
One of baseball’s preeminent photographers, Sony Artisan of Imagery Jean Fruth has built a storied career documenting America’s favorite pastime. After capturing the attention of Major League Baseball and the National Football League with her front page–worthy shots, she spent a decade covering the San Francisco Giants, Oakland Athletics, and San Francisco 49ers before helping build the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum’s archive. In 2019, Jean co-founded Grassroots Baseball, a nonprofit that promotes and celebrates amateur baseball globally. She is documenting this mission in a series of books, starting with Grassroots Baseball: Where Legends Begin (2019) and Grassroots Baseball: Route 66 (2022). She is also a traveling photographer for La Vida Baseball and La Vida Sports, digital media companies that share the stories of Latino sports across the United States and Latin America.
